I have been participating in a small group Pilates class with Debbie for a few years. Whether it’s in person or on Zoom she’s always paying attention to my form and tweaking it as needed. Every class is a little different and has changing focus which I love. Debbie is a positive kind person and I look forward to my weekly classes with her.

I am so happy you are ready to start or keep practicing Pilates!

I have been teaching Private and Small Group Pilates classes, for over a decade.

Let me tell you how my Pilates journey began:

I came across Pilates after having my son in 2001. According to my Doctor, some “things” had shifted during my pregnancy and resulted in constant abdominal and lower back pain. He had no answers for me but suggested that I strengthen my core in the hopes that in doing so, my pain would decrease.

I had heard about Pilates, but I was not ready to go to a studio, (I felt too self-conscious) so I decided to try it at home, bought a Pilates DVD and I was ready to try it out.

I was so excited! I set up my mat, got my water, pressed play, went through the Pilates Principles, (they sounded easy enough to follow)… the warmup went great, and then… BAM… The Hundreds came up!
What?? I did not know if I should laugh or cry, my core muscles were SO weak that I could barely hold my neck up and she wanted me to do a hundred reps, with my legs up in a perfect V AND pumping my arms???

I finished the class and concluded that DVDs were not going to do it for me, I needed some guidance, I found a Pilates Studio, and the next day, very unsure and overwhelmed I went in for my first class. I was afraid that I would be the only one NOT able to do the moves the RIGHT way, but I was determined; hoping for the best I got on my mat, gave a deep breath, and had my first formal introduction with Pilates.

That day changed my life, the class showed me how important it is to understand and listen to your body AND to find someone willing to meet you at your fitness level to help you reach your goals.

My regular Pilates practice made my pain slowly go away and made me stronger physically and mentally.

In 2008 I became a certified STOTT Pilates® instructor, I taught for a few years at the same studio where I took my first class, and in 2010 I opened my own private Studio, Zoomin Fitness, in Toronto where every class focuses on each person’s particular needs.

I have been there; I know what it feels like to not know where or how to start. The trick? Just decide that you are ready to try.
